Songs your family used to sing to you as a child

This was written in 1909 about immigrants feelings in the U.S. Family gatherings
of Great Uncles & Aunts playing instruments and singing together always included
this one at some point. I always watched one ancient old Uncles face while he sang, it
told more than the song did.

My dad was in the Merchant Navy when I was young, I remember him singing this to me when he came home. I am not called Susie and I don't have black eyes but.... I didn't care.

Another song I recall from childhood which my mum and grandmother both sang to me was this one.

What a cute song that Susie is, simply so cute! I remember the 2nd one too, nice memories!

I don't remember my mother singing to me but I'm sure she did. My favorite, which I learned as she sang to my youngest sibling, was "Baby's Boat's a silver dream" It saddens me that I have 3 sons, who don't care much, so, no one to pass it on to.

As an au pair in Den Haag, Netherlands (1973), I learned a couple of basic songs in Dutch - one was "Slaap kindje, Slaap"

Other than those, we were a Sing Along With Mitch Miller kind of family and I knew ALL the words. To my mother's mortification, I used to sing "Show me the way to go home...." as we went up and down the aisle at the supermarket. The checkers thought I was Soooo cute!
