Reflections of My Life

I did order my groceries this morning. I ordered some salad things for a change. I wanted some meals that I do not have to cook. No lettuce of any kind. It is the grossest thing they sell in the store! I spent so much time trying to get a decent amount of various lettuces or greens for Rabbit. It was and is horrible in the store. The plastic bags and containers are not the right way to store it (or anything else either). That is why it does not last very long once you get it home.

So for supper I had a salad with some fresh vegetables, some shredded cheese, some cold cuts and Chosen Foods keto ranch dressing. It was very good and I enjoyed it. Sometimes I get tired of cooking and standing in the kitchen. Though I did make 5 batches of Keto Chow shakes to put in the freezer. Don't have to cook them either. If I cook a breakfast and then eat cold food for my supper I am happy.

I have not gone anywhere today except to get my grocery delivery early this morning. The lady from upstairs was at my door practically begging me to buy her a laundry card with my credit card. No! I am not doing that. I was thinking that just because she does not want to have a checking account I shouldn't have to be responsible for providing her with a laundry card. Everyone has to learn to step out of their comfort zone and do what they need to do.

Yes, others need to step out of their comfort zones and learn to do more for themselves, rather than putting burdens on others.

This lady is right. She is talking about van life but it applies to other situations.

This woman is very smart and boy can she speak! She needs to do a TedTalk. She should have an online life coaching service or write books, if she hasn't. I enjoyed listening to her so much. Yes, everything she said is a big deal. To some, it may sound selfish. To me, peace, freedom, solitude and serenity are not selfish pursuits. I don't mind helping people within reason and it's for me to decide what within reason is.

Even though I won't be van-dwelling full time anymore, I'm going to check out her channel. TFSharing!

I like watching some of the van life channels or cheap RVliving but I don't want to do that myself. I watch a lot of channels that are not something I want to do just am interested in them. Like I love channels about people living in Alaska but I would not want to live there myself. I like where I am.

This morning I watched a couple of videos on how to tap your card to pay. I looked at all my credit and debit cards and they all have that little symbol. So I will try it this morning in the laundry room. That must be why I was having a problem because I never learned how to tap a card to pay. Never had to. So if I master this skill I will begin doing laundry today. I hope so because I like the idea that I taught myself.

Well I had no after effects of eating that salad yesterday. So I am happy to add salads to my menus. I really liked the ranch dressing I bought and ordered another bottle on Amazon. Walmart did not have that flavor in stock so I ordered 3 other varieties after checking the ingredients. Can't have canola or soybean oil or any of the names that hide sugar. Chosen Foods has some that do and some that don't. I think I only ordered the ones that don't. I know I can make my own but hey, sometimes I just want life to be easy for me. :giggle:

I have a list of stuff to do today so will be back here off and on.

Using the tap pay cards is so simple. Some will take the tap right away. Others you have to hold it up to the symbol for a couple seconds to let it read it. You just hold it over it by kinda having it hover above it close to it but not flat against it. I got tap to pay cards this time and I love them!

I hope it works for you so you can get your washing done! I'm excited for you.

I used to have problems too. Preferred the ancient way....swipe through the slot and continued to do that because the slots are pretty much still available. But I have tapped a few times here and there.

Well, this explains maybe why I've had problems. Also, could never tell if I needed to turn the card over or not, with the symbol facing the machine or not. It never took so I just swiped. I think one time I tried to tap and it read it before I even had it completely over the machine.

The vending machines in my apartment building read them easily by laying it gently on the device for a few seconds. It takes a few seconds for it to display approved make a selection. Before I understood that, I would tap it again and it just got all discombobulated šŸ˜„ but then straightened out. I've never been charged more or extra because of my mistakes.

No need to flip the card. The side with your security numbers faces down toward the tap spot but you have to make sure the end with the chip in it where the symbol is, is at the tap spot. Otherwise you're scanning the wrong end and scanning nothing.

You shouldn't have to lay it on the device. You should be able to just hold it up to it and let it register that it's read it. Some read it really fast and it beeps and you're good to go. The one in the cafeteria at work we call Patience because she takes a bit. LOL

Got my laundry done! I know how to use the card now and how to add money to it too. I did 3 loads. $2.50 to wash and $2.25 to dry. The new machines seem to work good and look shiny & new.

Then put my laundry away and made another salad for my first meal of the day. I will have Keto Chow shake made into ice cream later for my last meal. I can't stand up to cook something tonight. Too much standing today. I cut up the ingredients for my salad sitting here at the computer. Put the cutting board on my walker and worked from there. Easy! I am going to do it that way from now on.

You've been a busy bee šŸtoday! Congrats, so happy for you!!! You don't have to go out to the laundry mat. And it is such a satisfying feeling to find a new, easier and better way to do anything. šŸ’–

Well Sonny is back in the hospital. This time it is a "gut issue". He just does not take care of himself right. Does not eat right. Always wants to take pain meds and somehow gets the doctors to prescribe narcotics for him. Smokes on the sly (thinks I don't know but I do. I can smell those stinky things a mile away). He is not a drinker but will do that too at times with "the guys" (you know how that goes). At least he knows to only have one or two beers only or wine.

I never harp on it. Just keep my mouth shut and let him take me to do my errands. It is his health and his whole family has horrible health issues. So it is his own making.

How old is he, Kat ?

Today should be a busy day around here. Monday is the day people are out and about. Yet our manager and maintenance man do not work here until Wednesday. I am glad I got my laundry done yesterday so don't have to try to get in there today. Monday is a busy day in there usually. One of the aides came in to do laundry and when he unloaded his basket into the machine...........UGH! It stunk so bad from urine that the lady that was down there talking to me had to leave to get her air freshener.

Now usually I can't stand the smell of air fresheners but I welcomed it! The aide did not use any laundry detergent either. Maybe they were out? The lady talking to me said they never use any. When I went to get my laundry out of the dryer, the aide had set his basket on top of the dryer he was using and it reeked. So now he will put the clean clothing back into that same basket. If I was him I would have taken that basket next door to the community room and washed it with soap and water. At least!

The good news is that the lady upstairs finally was able to add money to the laundry card yesterday. She bought a gift card that is a Visa card and then came home and used the machine in the laundry room to add it to her laundry card. It cannot be reloaded. She still needs a checking account to make it easier! That is what I tell her every time she comes here complaining about the laundry room changes.

I had mentioned to her I was going to experiment with the new bus system and go to Walmart one day soon. Big mistake! I should not have said that to her. Now she wants to pin me down to what day I am doing that. I told her I live by the spur of the moment. I do not like to make long range.......or even 1 day plans if I don't have to. When you do things alone you do not have to plan it out.

So when I do that I will let her know then it is up to her if she wants to come along. She lives by routines. I tried that but it doesn't work good for me. When I had a job, I had to do that but have not done that in years now. It really depends on how I feel and whether I can walk good that day or not. If not, I don't go anywhere.

Had the heat on yesterday. Today it is 75 degrees. I am resisting turning on the AC as soon as it is bit warm. The pedestal fan cools me off surprisingly good. I did not expect it to be this good. I am keeping NYSEG in mind now. Even though I have HEAP and have not had to pay an electric bill I think if the bill went up it would use up the HEAP money they put in my account pretty fast. (Sorry for that long sentence)

I walked to the park on the corner this morning. The other parks all had city workers mowing and doing yard work. So too noisy to go to any of them. Tomorrow it is supposed to rain all day so no walking tomorrow.

I do believe I would have sat her down and explained that "I'm sorry, but I'm more comfortable traveling by myself because it's dangerous and way outside my comfort zone."
