‘Rhodes Scholar’ claimed she grew up poor and abused — then her story started to unravel
Rewarding a narrative over REAL life can lead to this....https://nypost.com/2022/01/11/rhodes-scholar-denied-honor-after-dishonesty-about-life-story
Now, the investigation into her story is being revealed by the Chronicle of Higher Education — including the Rhodes committee’s findings that Fierceton “created and repeatedly shared false narratives about herself,” using these “misrepresentations” to “serve her interests as an applicant for competitive programs.”The case also exposes the murky underbelly of elite schools like Penn and their quest to “show that they’re transforming society rather than laundering its inequalities” by accepting “remarkable” applicants with truly tragic backgrounds, according to the Chronicle report.
In so many items these days the narrative is more important then the truth.....
We excuse people in various for instance crime stories using they did not know better.... they had a bad childhood or situation.
Some almost wanting to gloss over any responsibility based on any claim or twisted story.
Now some will resort to faking a good sob story of overcoming obstacles to get ahead etc If someone had NOT TIPPED college off this girl would have kept her scholarship...... No one is really checking ... how many are not caught.
Why do people want to believe especially if it fits a narrative.
