A group of 25 Seniors were on a day trip to a casino in a 30 seat bus, when it collided with a transport truck on the Trans Canada highway, about 2 hours west of the Manitoba capital city of Winnipeg, yesterday. The bus caught fire, and burned. This incident resulted in a Province wide response, with 16 Ambulances and 2 Medevac helicopters going to the scene. The RCMP has said that the 2 drivers survived the crash, but both are in hospital with serious injuries.

The RCMP has stated that the tractor trailer had the right of way at the intersection, and they have recovered dash board video from the truck. The truck driver has been released from hospital and is co-operating fully with the RCMP accident investigators. The bus driver survived, but is in hospital, in critical condition. 15 Seniors are confirmed dead, and 10 people are in hospital, 6 are in critical condition, and 4 are in serious condition. The Prime Minister has directed that the flag atop the Peace Tower in Ottawa be flown at half mast, in honour of the victims.

This unfortunate accident just 2.5 hours from where I live. Apparently it will take 3 months to prove who is at fault. If you ask me, the bus driver is at fault. He/she decided to cross the highway when it wasn't safe to do so. The Trans-Canada is a busy highway with a lot of semi on the road. It is also a twin highway so the driver should not have crossed when a huge, fast moving 18 wheeler was headed in his direction. I would say that poor judgment was at fault but this resulted in the death of 15 "old timers."

As the population of this country increases, as folks travel faster and faster as the years roll by and as there seems to be less and less police presence on the highways of this nation, I predict that there will be more of these terrible accidents. As they say, "Speed Kills."
