He was/is trafficking drugs working with the Sinaloa Cartel, ordered hits on witnesses and/or placed bounties on others. Competed in the 2004 Olympic representing Canada. Believed to be somewhere in Mexico

I saw on the news that they were looking for him...but $15 million...Wow! I wonder what led him down that dark path.
I think he was a snow boarder which requires willing to take on risk. A thrill seeker. Probably started small time and his activities expanded.

He's probably what I call a raw talent athlete. His talent not his brain, drive or motivation got him there. If he was thinking about what he was doing in life he wouldn't be where he is now.

*sidenote. It was the 2002 Olympics I typed 2004 apologies.

It sounds like he is definitely a bad guy but I don’t really feel comfortable with the idea of the government offering these enormous bounties for criminals.

It seems to me that if we can find a tiny boat full of drugs in the middle of the ocean we should be able to find these people using existing resources.

Reward Amounts: The U.S. offers rewards of up to $25 million for information on designated major traffickers, with some exceptional cases, like that of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, seeing their bounty doubled to $50 million due to the severity of the charges and national security implications.
  • Nicolás Maduro: A $50 million reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the Venezuelan president, who faces federal drug trafficking and "narco-terrorism" charges.
  • Ryan Wedding: A $15 million reward is offered for the Canadian former Olympian turned accused drug kingpin, who is also on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.
  • Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias "El Mencho": The leader of the CJNG cartel has a $15 million bounty on his head.
  • Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada-Garcia: The long-time leader of the Sinaloa Cartel has a reward of up to $15 million offered for his capture.

I've often wondered what to athletes do with their lives after they win the Olympics. Maybe it leaves a hole that needs to be filled?

I don't think he actually won a medal in the Olympics. In other and Canadian competitions yes.

The sport especially in the early days attracted a lot of thrill seekers or adrenaline junkies. Also attracted a lot of free spirits do what they want types as well.

Wether it's an Olympic medal or cash he has no problem with competing. In the drug trade he even gets to eliminate his competition in more ways than one.
