Lustron prefabricated steel homes were touted as homes of the future in the 50s. The homes featured enamel-coated steel panels inside and out that eliminated painting. The finish on the panels was very similar to that found on washing machines, refrigerators, etc...
Only about 3,000 were built and two of the survivors are not far from where I live.
These are recent interior views showing the like-new condition of the enamel-coated steel panels on the walls and ceiling.

I would love a steel home! Why just steel roofs? Although I wonder how well the steel could be insulated against heat? Did the walls have insulation in between the steel panels?

It's amazing how similar the "future" is in those what's coming items. And it never seems to come true. Small, inexpensive housing, and what do we end up with-McMansions. Strange, the future has stay at home moms, just lounging the whole day away- not going off to work. I's surprised there's no flying cars, that's ALWAYS a futuristic thing.
I do have to say that i wouldn't mind living in the "home of 1973".

The home in the original post looks a lot like an Eichler. There were 11,000 built between 1949 and 1966, mainly in the San Francisco bay area. There are/were a lot of them in the Palo Alto area home to Stanford University and a lot built where I live in San Jose. You can find more info here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Eichler .

Well, there are cars that drive themselves, so maybe flying cars will be next..
Then for cartoon retro-futurism we have The Jetsons, who in addition to the much-desired flying car had a robotic maid ("Rosie"), and lived in kind of a floating or tethered sky housing complex. The Jetsons was not set hundreds of years into the future like Star Trek, but was considered to be the 21st century. A recent reconsideration of the Jetsonian lifestyle was dark, suggesting that humanity lived and worked in sky cities because they had poisoned or otherwise rendered the surface of the Earth uninhabitable...
