200 Missing Children Found Under the Guidance of U.S. Marshalls

I found this article to be interesting. I was unaware that there was an operation ongoing to locate missing children. A lot of these kids were or are runaways. I have often wondered how bad does a child have it at home that makes them want to runaway. I have picked up some runaways and some of their stories would break your heart.

There are different reasons why children runaway, but when I hear that a child left home because of sexual abuse, it makes my blood boil. Too often women will bring a boyfriend or new husband into the family without proper vetting. In many cases, this has been a mistake.

It was in the news here too.

As you may or may not know, Dr. Phil has gone the way of Oprah and started his own network called Merit Street Media. It is carried on antenna TV in my area. Home | Merit Street Media

I actually have to give this guy KUDOS for taking this step because I have watched their news program in the morning, and oh my God, is it so nice to hear intelligent story-telling and not “HI! LET’S GET YOUR DAY STARTED IN THE RIGHT WAY! HAPPY, HAPPY, HAVE A DONUT WITH YOUR COFFEE!” blather than comes from the local news. Geezus, on one station you can count on the anchors actually singing and dancing too. It’s a freakin’ floor show. Bring out the boas.

THEN, after they have done the HAPPY, HAPPY talk, they immediately dive into stories of local murders, robberies, kidnappings, and fraud. All the things that can make a morning great, right?

The cognitive dissonance of the local morning news - it is like nails on the chalkboard of my soul. I cannot watch it.

BUT, the Merit St. News, since it is national, will cover stories of national importance, like the missing kids found, or immigration, or bad weather everywhere, or elections, etc. Yes, it leans conservative, but there is real news out there that either side of the aisle should be covering. No murders on Merit St. News yet. I hope they don’t change. BUT, for Crime Junkies, they do have a crime show with Nancy Grace.

And Dr. Phil did a very good two-hour Primetime show about what is really happening at the southern border. NOTHING but bad news there - I don’t care what party you are in. The mayhem and law breaking is nothing but bad for children, legit immigrants, and legit assylum seekers.

I like media that can actually inform me - that will tell me stuff I don’t know much about. If Merit St. can keep doing that, then it will get my approval.

It is interesting and I'm glad to know there are operations like this in place. Thanks for posting .

@911 I remember watching an episode of the Oprah Winfrey show years ago when she showed a photo of a girl and boy tied up, their mouths taped, in the back of a van. There were claims that the girl was Tara Calico, a 19 year old who had gone missing almost a year before the photo was found, while the family of 9 year old Michael Henley believed the boy in the photo was him.

Two years later, Michael's remains were found a few miles away from the camping spot where he went missing, he had died of hypothermia. Although her family believed the girl in the photo was her, the FBI said it was not Tara. Tara Calico remains missing and the two people shown in the photo remain unidentified.

I am not suggesting that the photo had anything to do with the case mentioned in this thread but, it reminded me of that photo and I wondered if there has been any updates. I believe that, later on, there were doubts cast as to whether the photo was genuine but, whoever the two people in the photo were, they did look frightened.

Women also. I think there is an assumption that a partner will love and care for their offspring from a previous relationship/marriage but, sadly, as you know, that is not always the case.

You're right. It does work both ways. Stepmothers can be as mean and evil as Stepfathers. I had a runaway young ma of 14 that told us his story of his stepmom doing some terrible things to him during the day while his dad was at work. He was warned that if he told his dad, she would kill him and his dad. After going through that for I think about 8 months, the young man decided to run away.

He had been gone for 2 weeks when a Trooper in western PA picked him up. The youngster was from West Virginia. The Trooper turned him over to Child Services, but he was scared to death they were going to take him back to his house. They promised he would not have to go back. As it ended up, the father had no idea she was hitting the child with a leather strap and making him do a lot of the housework, including doing the wash and making meals under her supervision. She would stand him in a corner and lock him in a closet for hours. He wasn't allowed to go outside or play with his friends.

I think after several months, he was reunited with his father.

Poor boy. It is hard to understand cruelty, especially towards a child. Hopefully father and son were able to rebuild their lives.

Not too long ago on Tik Toc, a hand signal by a child that was kidnapped was released and it went viral. A child that is kidnapped is supposed to hold their hand up, fold in their thumb and close their fingers around it and keep doing that.

Hand Signal

I have read quite a few cases where victims were saved after using the help signal to alert people that they were being held against their will or in danger. It used to be taught to domestic violence victims. Great that children also know how to use the hand signal and, hopefully, it will save many more lives.

yes I saw that... what was even more amazing was that the person who saw the signal recognised it as an SOS.... it should be taught in every school...

Sometimes it's just kids who leave home early (run away) and there isn't any kind of abuse. Just kids who get in with the wrong crowd and looking for excitement and a friend says, 'hey, let's go.....' and thoughtlessly, they go along. What happens after that, well it depends on who they meet along the way and sometimes they get very unlucky in that regard.

This is more the exception than the rule. The FBI estimates that about 2500 kids go missing each day. I find that to be an amazing number.
Most of these are abductions by the other parent who does not have permission to take the child. This is what we need to find a solution to and fix it.
