VERY absorbing film. Some commentary from May:
I can't think of the last time I was so totally absorbed in a movie. Often I was practically on the edge of my seat, as I was almost completely caught up in the story, and how it was gradually unfolding. The tale stayed with me, and I've thought back about it often.
It's a lovely and piquant film, but with heartbreak. It feels almost like a documentary. Three octogenarians in senior care --one male, two female-- gradually come together out of loneliness and love, spending lots of time together in outings and also in romance. I'll avoid spoilers so as not to ruin the discovery of the story.
The 3 leads are long experienced veteran actors of hundreds of films and series: Tom Bower, Marilyn Mason, and Anne Gee Byrd. Their performances are flawless, making it seem as though they really were the characters. The mastery of their craft was evident in their portrayal of subtle emotions as well as histrionics.
First time feature director and co-writer Kelly Blatz shows intuition, sensitivity, and craft beyond his years. The screenplay was fashioned simply from a photographic study by Isadora Kosofsky which documented 3 real-life real life seniors who had a polyamorous triangle.
I think every senior would be enthralled by this unique movie. It's 92 minute runtime sails by, leaving the viewer to reflect on what they'd just seen.
