OMG!!! This is the first I'm "hearing" about this! I bet Lewiston is one of those places that residents think of as idillic, where nothing bad could ever happen. Shootings, killings, mass murders...have gotten out of hand and it seems no place should be considered safe. I've been noticing that too many people who are or were in positions of authority are off the hook and have been committing heinous crimes. The murder rate is up in my city too, with October being the deadliest. In the past couple of weeks several people were shot.

I wonder why his Facebook account was taken down after shooting reports, It's a shame as it could have given police a better idea of state of mind.
His Twitter account is still up. Scratch that it is down too.
Even more bizarre is why they let him out of a mental health facility.

Apparently, there is a fake video out there saying he has been captured.

Well, FB wouldn't want an alleged felon to use the platform for bragging or to promote a crazed agenda ... or livestream criminal activities. It keeps them from becoming a liability to FB.
There are innocent people associated with some of those who "go mental" and taking the page down helps protect the innocent and their privacy.
For the police, I would imagine it "freezes" the profiles, messages and replies before they can be edited or deleted.
... just a guess and thinking out loud ...

That makes sense to me, thank you for that.

I think he may have been a (enlisted) sergeant in the Army.
Fire arms instructors aren't usually officers.
I have no idea if any of his supposed military service has been verified yet.
I was thinking that too that ncos conduct the training. Now this report says he's a firearms instructor trained by the military. Also some conflicting reports he was an Army reservist vs in the National Guard.

Firearms Instructor is Person of Interest in Maine Shooting: Police

A gunman opened fire on a children's bowling league in a rampage that killed at least 22 people and wounded 60 in the Maine city of Lewiston - and is now on the run as a huge manhunt is underway.

Survivors have described how they escaped by fleeing down bowling lanes and hiding behind pins as the gunman used an AR-15-style rifle to open fire while children were playing - with teenagers among the injured.

The shooter, who police believe is previously sectioned Army reserve firearms instructor Robert Card, used an AR-15-style rifle to open fire inside the Sparetime Recreation bowling alley and then nearby Schemengees Bar and Grille.

Lewiston, a small city of about 38,000, is on lockdown as police hunt for Card, 40, who was sectioned this summer with mental health issues. He previously reported hearing voices and threatened to shoot up his National Guard base in Saco, Maine.

One bowler, who only identified himself by his first name Brandon, said he heard 10 shots ring out before he ran down the alley barefoot and climbed inside the bowling machinery to hide from the gunman.

Describing the moment that the shooter opened fire, Brandon said: 'We were inside, just a normal night of bowling. Out of nowhere he just came in and there was a loud pop.

I have a question, could he be heading to Canada?
Not likely. The US has a pretty good electronic sensor network that covers the US/Canada border in that part of the continent . There are the usual road crossing border check points, but the sensor network also covers the forest areas on the US side of the border. Walking across the border is physically possible, but the network would probably detect him moving on foot. I know the electronic sensors track deer and moose and bears all the time, because their body heat shows up on the infra red cameras and the over head flights by CBP drones. He is much more likely to stay in an area that he is familiar with in Maine.

Think for a minute how this carnage might have been different, if he had a bolt action rifle that requires the bolt to be manipulated after EVERY SHOT. Having a semi automatic rifle, and lots of loaded magazines, greatly increased his ability to kill people, fast. I pity the Americans who have to live with such a terrible "domestic terrorism " situation hanging over their heads every day. Make no mistake, this is terrorism. It is just not associated with a terror group, or ideology . JimB.
