3 ways to boost your memory, according to brain experts

From exercise to word games with others, these activities reduce your chances of dementia

Worries about dementia often rank high in polls of Canadians' health concerns, but a neurologist says there are ways to keep our cherished memories strong.

Dr. Sandra Black, a cognitive neurologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, says with normal aging, short-term memory dulls and the brain's processing speed slows with each decade after 50.

To help counter those declines, Black looks for ways to boost memory that are supported by scientific evidence.

I have always kept my brain active with mental stimulant games, word games et al... but I don't prescribe to the blanket statement about the brain being active preventing dementia .. If that were the case, brilliant Mathematicians, Surgeons, Scientists, Authors, Actors ( who learn a script every day ) .. production crew who have to memorize the same scripts every day, Musicians , song writers, ... ..would never get dementia and they most certainly do..

It certainly doesn't help you if you don't keep the grey cells oiled but I don't believe it's the cause of dementia or Alzheimers... I believe like every other part of the body it's a disease that attacks, despite the quality of the brain cells

My ex sister -in-law has just been diagnosed with dementia.. .. and she's quite advanced, and bed ridden with cellulitis .. and her brother my ex husband doesn't help by insisting she got it from 'being lazy''...

A lot of reports have shown that swelling, inflammation, is a major contributor to problems.

Dietary changes years before it can happen can prevent most problems, and after it starts to happen can hopefully stop and even reverse the problems.

There is a relatively long list of no-no foods, including most processed foods like milk, sugar, and refined white flour - the three white poisons identified by 1948 by usa licensed doctors. Refined salt and msg and some other things also are known to cause inflammation or degeneration ....
