As we pulled up at the mortor museum today I just heard the back end of this story on the radio news. I was horrified. 5 kids it said girls and boys aged between 12 and 14 killed an 80 year old man as he walked his dog in the park..on Sunday

So when I got home this evening I looked for the story in the news.. and here it is...

A dog walker who died after a group of children allegedly attacked him and 'kicked him in the neck and back' has been pictured for the first time.

Three girls and two boys aged between 12 and 14 have been arrested on suspicion of murder after Bhim Sen Kohli, 80, was 'seriously' assaulted while walking his dog in Franklin Park at around 6.30pm on Sunday.

Leicestershire Police today confirmed five children had been arrested on suspicion of murder after Mr Kohli last night succumbed to his injuries.

The alleged attackers, who targeted Mr Kohli when he was just seconds away from the safety of his home, are a boy and a girl aged 14 and two girls and one boy aged 12. They are currently in custody being questioned.

'Gentle' Mr Kohli, who is a retired factory owner, is survived by his devastated wife, three children and two grandchildren.

However.... right next to this story was another story about a child killer. This time a former Louisiana Mayor and his adult daughter were killed by a 10 year old..who shot them multiple times ..in an apparent argument about Video game credit card charges ..this also on Sunday the same day as the British killings

Both stories are as shocking as one another in that they were carried out by Child Killers...

This is the USA story...

A 10-year-old confessed to fatally shooting a former Louisiana mayor and his daughter - with witnesses saying an argument over credit card charges for video games sparked the killings

Joe Cornelius, 82, and his daughter, Keisha Miles, 31, were shot multiples times by the unidentified minor, who confessed to the shooting, according Minden Police Chief Jared McIver said, according to KTBS.

'We've got a confession. But in these cases when you're in, it's very delicate,' McIver said. 'When you're dealing with a child of this age, you know, in their stage, we're looking at was there motive, what was the motive? What caused [it], what sparked it, you know, since the victims were shot.

'It's one of those things that we've still got a lot of unanswered questions.'

McIver described the child as 'scared,' but said the minor had the 'mindset to commit a crime like this,' according to KTBS.

The boy's relationship to the victims is unclear.

Police responded to a home on Austin Street around 6:30am on Sunday after receiving reports of shots fired. Authorities found the victims inside with multiple gunshot wounds.

Question:... what on earth is going on with children these days?

We were discussing this story in the museum and we all said as children.. if we even back-chatted an adult we would have been roundly disciplined by our parents... so does anybody think it's the lack of discipline at home that's causing this complete and utter disrespect that some children have for adults.. ?

The big change came, IMO, when two parents started working and leaving children to their own whims, influences from others... until you get that back, these things will continue, and
continue to get worse....
See I disagree there Hawkie.. Both my parents worked, and most of my school friends parents both worked, we never heard of any thing like this happening ever in our childhood... and now it's becoming a common occurrence, it's not even rare now..

Damn pay wall. I hate those things and I refuse to turn my ad blocker off.
Do you have a toggle reader view..up far right where the url is of this forum?.. if you do , lick on the link to the papers.. then go up and click on the toggle viw reader. That should let you read the paper without ads.. and bypasses the Paywall

It is and isn't 'the' issue. But absent parent in the picture p from divorce, break-ups etc contribute. But abusive or lousy parenting is also an issue.

Personally operating under the KISS principle (keep it simple stupid) kids must know at an early age criminal behavior is not good, punishable and has consquences. Some say shouldn't threaten a juvenile but plenty will listen if they are told if they kill someone they will die by the death penalty. No long lectures, workshops, classes, courses.

Too many kids have no boundaries and life becomes about what they can get a way with. Even the 10 year old if one looks in their parenting history it will non existent or negligent. Some parents don't want to parent out of 'abuse' fears others don't believe in a simple clear cut hardline approach.

Both cases are tragedies. Yes, what on earth is going on with such children who kill?

I don't know the answer but I am for death penalty even for such murderous children. If they kill, they should be killed also.

Disagree on the death penalty, but putting that aside.

I don't know why kids are doing this type of thing, it's no doubt complex. However, you've heard me say it before, Social Media has a role. In fact, the BBC posted a story a few days ago that was interesting, though not at all surprising:

Social media: Why algorithms show violence to boys

It was 2022 and Cai, then 16, was scrolling on his phone. He says one of the first videos he saw on his social media feeds was of a cute dog. But then, it all took a turn.

He says “out of nowhere” he was recommended videos of someone being hit by a car, a monologue from an influencer sharing misogynistic views, and clips of violent fights. He found himself asking - why me?

Over in Dublin, Andrew Kaung was working as an analyst on user safety at TikTok, a role he held for 19 months from December 2020 to June 2022.

He says he and a colleague decided to examine what users in the UK were being recommended by the app’s algorithms, including some 16-year-olds. Not long before, he had worked for rival company Meta, which owns Instagram - another of the sites Cai uses.

When Andrew looked at the TikTok content, he was alarmed to find how some teenage boys were being shown posts featuring violence and pornography, and promoting misogynistic views, he tells BBC Panorama. He says, in general, teenage girls were recommended very different content based on their interests.

TikTok and other social media companies use AI tools to remove the vast majority of harmful content and to flag other content for review by human moderators, regardless of the number of views they have had. But the AI tools cannot identify everything.

Andrew Kaung says that during the time he worked at TikTok, all videos that were not removed or flagged to human moderators by AI - or reported by other users to moderators - would only then be reviewed again manually if they reached a certain threshold.

He says at one point this was set to 10,000 views or more. He feared this meant some younger users were being exposed to harmful videos. Most major social media companies allow people aged 13 or above to sign up.

TikTok says 99% of content it removes for violating its rules is taken down by AI or human moderators before it reaches 10,000 views. It also says it undertakes proactive investigations on videos with fewer than this number of views.

[this constitutes about half of the published story, follow link to see it all.]

12 to 14 yr. olds are picked as suicide soldiers because they have no conscience, and no sense of mortality. Even younger children are used to kill soldiers of opposing military, they'll have explosives under their clothing and are sent to mingle with unsuspecting soldiers, who are then killed when the explosives are detonated.

Kids today are exposed to so much junk it's no wonder some of them lose all sense of wrong or right. Vaughan's post says it all. They don't even understand that death is a lasting condition.

When we were 12 year-old kids we watched Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show and we were receiving instructions about decent behavior without even being aware of it. Now kids look at short videos all day long where kids are doing dangerous things just for fun, they watch movies that are all about violent revenge for the slightest things as though it's honorable.

And it's all day and all night long, not a half hour here and there like our TV. They're living in that violent video game world until late at night and they become addicted to it. Young brains that aren't even fully formed and they're exposed to constant violence and porn and not much else.

@George1959, I agree with you.

Children are no longer children no matter their age when they intentionally kill. They should face the same punishment as an adult.

The sad fact is that even adults aren't being held accountable for their actions any more. Too many excuses are made as to why someone has committed terrible acts. It's no wonder we are hearing more of these crimes being committed.

The 11 pm news tonight said the murderer in Louisiana was related to the victims, but didn't release how yet. They said he will be charged with first degree murder.

These are not children, these are little monsters, brought up by parents who are monsters too.
That's a definite maybe, there are many variables here and there's no doubting the dysfunction.
I prefer to look at the big picture through the lens of behavioral sink. This term was coined after experiments with the population in rat colonies in the 1950's & 60's. In my view it fits the modern dystopian world very well.

EDIT: Search for the 1993 murder of James Bulger.

In relation to kids and video games I remember a four year old boy who could kill all the figures on the screen masterly.

This was three decades ago!
