What a shame that people don't fix their animals so this kind of thing doesn't happen so often.
We use to pick up strays and have them fixed then give them to good home. Can't afford that anymore.
We have never paid for a cat or dog. All ours cats and dogs came from shelters or people giving them away. Puppy mills are another problem we have in this nation.
Last Oct. we lost our dog she was almost 19. Very old for large dog. She was a greyhound rescue. A yellow lab got with one of the females at the kennel so we got the puppy. All our dogs live very long lives. Never let them get fat and keep up shots.

Years ago we used to have to pay a licence to own a dog... it was stopped way back , but I wish they would bring it back, and maybe we wouldn't have all these puppy farms, and people buying dogs (and cats) like disposable cheap clothing and turfing them out when they get fed up after a short time

Here where I live we have to register our dogs every year $35 if they are desexed, and they also have to be micro chipped with name and address, and ear tattoo.
I believe that cats also have to be done now.

Plus all dogs had to have a collar with a tag showing the owners name and address.

I agree. People need to take responsibility of their dogs and cats. Some people say they can’t afford to pay the licenses or get them fixed. In that case, they can’t afford a dog or cat but they have them anyway. 🤐

Absolutely agree. We just put our 5th dog down (we're done after 36 years of dogs). They were all shelter dogs (a.k.a. 'mutts'). And to the point, they are a continual expense and people have to realize that before they get an animal. We have spent a lot (happily) licensing, treating, tagging, and feeding. I sure don't like euthanasia, but due to irresponsible people, there just aren't enough 'qualified' people who want a dog or cat, to adopt them all. Having a dog living in a shelter for years is also 'cruelty', though well intentioned.
