Seven New Jersey high school football players from a championship team/program have been arrested for sexual assault while hazing younger players.

Hazing is bad enough but sexual assault with the same finger placed in multiple orifices is sick if not perverted. And it takes coaches, staff and senior students to do nothing which makes them nothing but enablers. At a meeting before the arrest but after the season was canceled I saw parents whining about their kids football career pulling Penn State arguments out. Also note they caught the coach with steroids this year which makes you wonder about their "championship".

I heard about this on the radio a couple days ago! Oh my gosh, and the parents apparently are up in arms because their 'babies can't play football and scouts were coming to the next game'!!! Like talk about confused priorities.

I just don't get this whole 'football cult'.

Unfortunately, I think these hazing incidents have been going on for years, if steroids are involved it's even worse. It's no wonder there's so much domestic violence in the NFL these days, seems like they're all conditioned at a young age. :(

On the radio program I listened to, a teacher called in and she related stories of coaches coming to her to pressure her to let student athletes pass and play in spite of lousy grades and she mentioned that in one class she had four football players and only one of them was a serious student. The other three more often than not came to class to fall asleep (if they showed up at all). So it does seem that the attitude starts very young.

It's viewed as a scholarship to college in most cases. That's why the parents are upset because rather than ask junior did you do push ups today they would have to ask about calculus class. They'd rather nudge a football career than an academic one. They understand football, they don't understand math.

Many parents also vicariously live their lives through their kids achievements. If they achieve athletically they can be perceived as athletic themselves.

Many players and parents still wanted this coach to stay but he did not get his football coaching job back. He was allowed to return to his teaching job(probably union)

The same coach who supposedly didn't know players were getting hazed and/or sodomized also had an assistant arrested for steroids.

No evidence he gave to players ie he didn't get caught or they didn't find evidence-yet. The rape sodomy charges still have to play out in court. Wonder what information will come out about "the program".

When I was in college , some members from one of the sports teams did a hazing stunt that nearly ended in death. They went into a dorm room and rousted the underclassmen out of bed. They made them swallow pieces of Alka Seltzer and then drink a bottle of Coke. The paramedics had to be called and the kids were rushed to the hospital. Out of the five students that took the cocktail three of them had to be rushed into surgery. Back in those days, hazing was part of college, even if it went severely wrong. Nothing happened to the kids, except they were told not to do it again.

I guess if the Alka Seltzer and coke were in a confined space like a stomach, the build up of gases would be a serious problem wouldn't it? Why do people think it's okay to cause suffering in their pursuit of fun? I can't understand that kind of mentality.

Because most people are sheep and will do anything to stay with their chosen herd. If for no other reason if something similar was done to them they figure it should be done to others.

When I was young asking for or to do something because somebody else did it the response was frequently if your friends jumped off a cliff would you still want to do what they did?
