70,000 Chinese Kids stolen each year?

I saw a news story on TV. It said that about 70,000 Chinese kids are stolen from their parents each year. I'm not sure why all those kids were taken, but the program showed parents holding yellow signs with their kids' picture. It's 20-30 years later, and some signs have a picture of a 3 day old baby on it. Less than 100 are reunited with their real parents per year. Does anybody have more info about this, or why this is happening.

China had a restriction on how many children people were permitted to have. This sounds like an outgrowth of that policy.

I've no current knowledge, but years ago it was reported that Chinese families had a strong predilection for having male children. Government birth statistics showed a disproportionate number of male children being born. In light of the government restriction on family size, one has to wonder what was happening to all of the female babies.

My daughter adopted a Chinese baby 15 years ago. Her parents already had a little boy and they dropped her off at the orphanage the day she was born since she was a girl and at that time they could only have one child. My daughter adopted from China as she had 2 friends that adopted here in the states and both lost their children when the birth mothers changed their minds about the adoptions. She decided she could not handle going through losing a child so she knew there would be no problem adopting a Chinese baby. That baby is now 16, just got her driver's permit, excels in her honors classes at school and is the light of my daughter's life. She is my granddaughter in every way. I treat her the same as my other "grands" as she is the same! She has never expressed a desire to know her biological parents and that is fine with us.
