Yeh it's an airport which are frequently on the expensive side but a New York Times columnist had a burger, fries and a couple of drinks at a Newark airport restaurant. They're saying the whiskey drinks were almost $30 each with the burger & fries being $17.

NY Times columnist’s gripe about $78 Newark Airport tab goes viral: ‘Keep drinking buddy’

No matter where the cost is both are too much for my wallet.

Should note he probably ordered double whiskeys but even then $15 for a shot of whiskey?

The restaurant is going to try to exploit that combination to their benefit.

Airports worldwide are very expensive for food and drink, especially here in London or in Paris or Rome... diabolical really but they have people as captured diners.. Once they're flight side there's nowhere else to go...

What in flying hell..... ????

Had a coffee & sandwich at Sydney airport, quite sometime ago. It cost me around $25.

Tried to take a bottle of water on the plane, just after 9/11. Had to either drink it before
boarding, or toss it. I tossed it.

Do you think their space rental rates at the airports are much higher than average?

As high as prices are, they’re higher on the plane and limited choices of even worse food.

a response I read in a story about this said same meal of burger and fries was actually 17 dollars and rest were drinks.....obviously not one to add up to that

As of a few years ago, one could take an empty water bottle through the security check point and then fill it in the departures area. Has that changed?

I'm old enough to remember bus stations that had restaurants inside, but young enough to remember never seeing any still in operation. Just some vending machines. Smaller towns had tinier stations, which were sometimes sharing a building with a Dairy Queen or other fast food joint. I do remember one of those in my college town where that DQ was still open for business.

Airports probably do charge ridiculous rents and utilities. Probably special taxes and other graft off the books as well.
