8 foot King Cobra loose

in Orlando, FL. area. It seems that this couple, runs a sanctuary for exotic animals, and has a license to have them. Somehow, the King Cobra got out of its pen and now no one knows where it is. People in the area are freaking out as well as a school about a mile from the escaped snake. This particular snake has enough venom to kill an elephant, But, they try to avoid people. I have a feeling that this critter is going to be very hard to locate.

A cobra, and any other venomous snake can be very dangerous. When I was stationed in Thailand, in 1967, Cobras, and Kraits were a constant concern around the base. We had a couple of troops killed because of snake bites, and one day they hung a 10 foot cobra by the entrance of the chow hall to remind everyone to be vigilant. The Burmese Python infestation in Southern Florida should be a major concern...as it is probably just a question of time before one of those things kills a young child playing in their backyard.

We lived in Florida for a bunch of years. Snakes, gators and insects spawned by Satan. At least the lizards in the mail box were cute. The Palmetto bugs not so much. Try to crack them with a shoe and they might fight back...fire ants everywhere. A runaway snake of any kind is the least of your worries.

The only snakes, in 16 years in Florida, I've ever seen are black racers. They are so fast, they disappear immediatly. Saw a pigmy rattler once, but he went his way and I went mine. An occasional palmetto bug,but they are usually dead from spraying the outside of the house. The geckos are all over the place but they are the reason there are no flies. And yes, I found out the hard way about fire ants.

I don't think anyone should have exotics of any sort. People with poison snakes, tigers, lions, chimps....these critters don't belong in homes or anywhere except the wild in my opinion. No good ever comes of it. Either the people who own them suffer or the animals do! Like that lady whose face got torn off by her friends chimp! And a couple years ago, in the province next to us, two little boys who were sleeping over at their friends house, were strangled to death by the python or boa constrictor that was in the 'rescue/pet shop' downstairs! And there's a multitude of situations of roadside 'zoos' where bears and tigers and so on, languish and suffer for their entire lives. Bad, bad, bad!
