A bag of potting soil is as hard as concrete

I bought a bag of potting soil. It did feel hard when I picked up the bag, but I thought I could loosen it up with a trowel. I don't think a pickax could bust it up. I was very moist, too. Would letting it dry out a bit make it more friable?

To make potting soil less hard, you can add organic matter like compost, peat moss, or leaf mold. These materials improve soil structure, drainage, and aeration, making the soil softer and lighter. Alternatively, you can use soil additives like perlite or vermiculite, which also increase aeration.
