A Brave Cop

This brave police officer handcuffed himself to a woman who was trying to commit suicide in Beijing, China. The woman knew that if she died, she would take the policeman with her and that seemed to bring her back. The officer later hauled her back onto the building where he stood.​

 

First, it does not say how high it is, nor does it indicate if an air cushion or net is below. Plus I have no doubt he was restrained below, either mechanically or by others. Notice the arm on the wall next to him, someone is down there bracing it seems.
 
That cop did save her life, but I'm not sure handcuffing himself to her was a great idea. There could have been two deaths associated with this story. A suicidal person is not exactly someone, who is acting rationally. The fact that she hadn't already jumped, is an indication that she probably wouldn't jump, but she' still is precariously out on a ledge

Right. There is not only an arm on the wall next to him, but an additional person (in a uniform) next to that one. So even if she'd have jumped, they'd likely have been able to save him and (because they're handcuffed) her.

But right — it was indeed brave.
 
She doesn't look very heavy. If she had jumped, he would have been able to hold her weight. He will have known that.
 
I don't think that she really meant to jump, she is listening
to music, I presume, since she has ear bud in.

Still heroically stupid, but it worked.
