The US is not in recession. Those saying we are are either unclear about the definition or deliberately spreading untruths in hopes of revving up (political) dissatisfaction.

Maybe (hopefully) fast food sales are softening because people are wising up to the truth: McD's and their ilk are overpriced junk food, and it's not a big deal to turn out healthier versions at home at substantially lower prices.
