My oldest grandson (soon to be 31) has always been a no nonsense child, older and wiser than his years. He's thoughtful too. When he was about 14 or 15 and had come for a visit, I offered to give him some spending money as he was leaving. He said no, he didn't need it. I asked again. No. About two weeks later, his mother called me laughing. She said he told her I offered to give him money but he didn't take it because "She doesn't have a job." 
On his next visit I explained to him that I get a pension every month and showed him the stub. He couldn't believe I "get paid" to sit home and do nothing.
