Last week I went to our resident dining room to have lunch and sat down at a table where a attractive lady was seated by her self. I introduced my self and she replied that her name was Stephanie and that she was a vegetarian. I am not the best judge of a persons age but I knew she had to be quite younger than me. At any rate after 10 minutes and having barely touched her vegetable salad she was up and gone. I would see her at other times in the library or lobby sitting by her self for a few minutes and then up she would get and walk around a bit. She seemed to me to have a very brief attention span. Finally, when I enquired about her to management they told me she was 56 and has severe dementia.
I was shocked. I thought dementia was a disease of people my age. Where I live there is a Dementia and Alzheimer section for those that need it now or in the future. Seems like many of the older residents are in better shape than the young'uns.
