A Drive through San Francisco 1962

Incredible footage of Hamburg just 3 years after the war ended.... ( Britain may have won the war but we lost the battle, and the country was in ruins for decades after,)

...and 1958 colour ....

I was there in ‘58
Mom and her neighbor friend took us kids to visit uncles and aunts in Calif

Drove down from Portland in our ’56 Chevy nomad

The three things I remember;
The trees of mystery
The streets of San Francisco
And the Golden Gate Bridge

…oh, and the ants in my aunt Sis’s back yard

….and almost dying when our chevy stalled when trying to turn off hwy 101 to the trees of mystery

I was in the wagon part of the station wagon
Watching the grill of the nearing semi getting bigger and bigger

Cool air horn

woulda been the last word I’d have ever read if Mom hadn’t gotten that Nomad started

Good times

Coool.... Gary, I was hoping some people here would know these places first hand and maybe remember a little of them from back in the day....

Having been born and raised 15 minutes south of San Francisco,I remember all of the SF videos. In fact,Mr. Robinson kissed me for the first time at Fisherman`s Wharf on a boat (The Balclutha) that was docked there and people were allowed to board it and check it out. I`m sure they no longer allow that though. That was our first date and we also walked around Chinatown, shown in the 1958 video. Hubby was born in San Francisco, raised in South San Francisco,so he was much more familiar with it than I was. His parents owned a bar there. I just rode through every weekend on our way to the lake.

Holly, what a great bunch of videos, I had to save some for later in my YT Watch Later queue.

I was in SF in the early 80's, loved the hills and restaurants and the bridge, etc. The city smells like sour dough bread!

The NYC in the 70's curiously had 40's music,,, but looks so familiar.

I loved the London video... Carnaby St- so famous. The styles, lol... one guy looked like George Harrison walking by, even the Queen seemed to zip by for a moment. All those cute teens, seniors today and grumbling about automatic checkout stations in the supermarkets, LOL.

Thanks!

Unfortunately,it no longer smells like sourdough. Now it smells like poop and urine. San Francisco is suffering a lack of tourists because it has become so filthy. The new mayor says she hopes to clean it up but with some of her decisions thus far,I doubt that that will happen.
