A friend or relative needs a place to stay

This makes me think of an extreme case I heard of. I worked with a really sweet guy and he sometimes told us about "Ricky and Lucy" situations and his wife got into. One day he went home from work and a family with children and pets were there for dinner. Then he found out they were staying for a few days. His wife had went down to the Social Security office (My co-worker and his wife were in their 30s) for some reason, I think to find out something about her dad who had passed away. Anyway, she met this family there who had a hard luck story so she took them home till they could get on their feet. I will skip all the details but it ended a few days later when my work friend found out the people had $ but they were saving up for a down payment on a house! His wife couldn't understand why he kicked them out. They were divorced a few years later.
