A Heavy Rain

Have you been caught in a rainstorm and enjoyed it?

Three years ago about now we were caught in several rainstorms in Australia - Queensland/Cairns. Even though we were drenched, the rain was so warm that it was more like taking a shower. One night we walked to a restaurant. I didn’t realize how wet I was until the end of the meal when I saw the puddle that had formed under me and that my clothes were still wet.

Growing up in southern Ontario, I remember some hot summer rains. They usually game with thunderstorms.

For me, listening to rain on the roof is really therapeutic. If I want to relax, I think about those Cairns rains.

I absolutely love the rain, I find it very calming. Been caught in some rainstorms too while hiking in the high country, fine as long as it's not too cold, usually I had a jacket with a hood to keep dry. The air after a good rains smells so fresh!

While still in my single digits I longed for the chance to experience swimming on a rainy day... had heard so much about how warm the water is supposed to be, etc, etc, and so one day when the rain was pouring down I informed my mom that I was joining neighbourhood friends for a lake swim, and so I did.

It was fun, nothing to write home about though. :)

While I do like rain (to a degree), as for getting caught in rain storm and enjoying it, timing was always poor for me... all dressed up, my hair done nice, and soaking wet all the way through.

LOL, with you, not at you. It does seem to happen more often when it shouldn’t. The easiest way to stop it is to carry your umbrella.

My husband has told me on more than one occasion that I am a tough nut to crack, Jules, and I'm beginning to believe he's right. LOL!

I do what I refer to as a weather take before I leave home on those wishy-washy days. Needless to say, I wouldn't make for a good weather woman. :giggle:

A good downpour with no wind actually smooths out the water surface making for some well formed waves. Walking home in it is refreshing.
Once or twice during a winter storm I walked fully clothed down by the water because I knew I would walk home and get into a nice hot shower. Otherwise . . . not a chance.

I used to like Thunderstorms and lightning.....until our house was hit, way back about 1975. I had one of these roof mounted TV antennas on the fireplace chimney, and a bolt of lightning decided to target it. It blew a big hole in the family room ceiling....right where I would have been sitting earlier in the evening. luckily, the heavy rains pouring in kept any fire from happening, but the water and house wiring damage was severe. Several weeks later, and a bunch of repairs, we were finally able to return to normal. Since then, we are always on the watch for severe weather, and hope to never have to experience something like that again.

I loved coming into the cabin during a storm
The hot wood stove
The warm cabin
Dry

Then sitting back in the lay-z-boy after drying off, and hearing the thunder
.....and the rain on the metal roof

Good sleeping weather
Really good with yer woman

Heh, new to down south, I asked an ol' boy why the steps off the curbs

'Boy, you nevah bin in Houston during a rainstorm, have yuh'

Man, that sky would pucker up and come down..... in sheets....in torrents
Everbody runnin' everwhere
Then....a few minutes later.....the sun would come out
Nuthin' quite like that first experience

In the middle of summer on a hot and humid day, a downpour cools the air but raises the humidity, and when the sun comes back it gets stifling. Summer rains can be enjoyable sometimes but other seasons not so much.
