A more contagious coronavirus variant first identified in the United Kingdom continues to crop up across the U.S. and around the globe, threatening to further strain overburdened health care systems just as vaccines are rolling out worldwide.

At least eight U.S. states and 33 countries have identified the new variant, known as B.1.1.7. Several nations have also identified an additional variant, first identified in South Africa, that also appears to infect people more easily.

Yup. I am now wearing a mask and a face shield when I shop. I get some stares, but I could care less. I decided that among the many things I do not want, catch the virus is number one. Number two is a stick up my, hmm, nevermind TMI.

It showed up in my county (Harris) yesterday Last Monday it was in two states and now it is in eight.
I set my alarm when I grocery shop so I get there when they open and I am a little puzzled why on 3-4 people are doing the same. I will never go in to a store full of people while the virus is spreading faster and faster. Common sense.

And this is just what we know about. The US doesn't do a lot of DNA testing on the various strains that people are ill with, so it's likely a whole lot more widespread than we imagine.
