A New Crime Wave Sweeping the UK

I wonder if unscrupulous body shop owners "order" the parts they need from the thieves, and charge the customer as if the parts weren't stolen.
Around here it would be catalytic converters, so maybe not a body shop. In San Francisco, in many neighborhoods, leave a package visible and you can kiss a window goodbye.

You missed the tax point. Anything a government can legalize they can tax and that's the attraction. We were told that legalizing marijuana would cut out illegal trafficking but it's still cheaper to buy it illegally. No tax. That may well be true of prostitution also.
And you are missing the point I am making, Myrtle. Taxes or not, if prostitution is legalized, you won't see criminal gangs moving in to make a profit of human misery! In any case, sex workers on this continent are heavily taxed by their pimps and crime bosses!

The sex workers in European countries like the Netherlands or Germany are not coerced in any way. And I am always talking about the general picture because nothing is ever 100 percent black or white!

When it comes to Marijuana, to go off subject for a minute, regrettably our various provincial governments were greedy and set the price too high when we made it legal (should have been legal all along) and the trafficking continues. They should have undercut the dealers for the first little while until none of them were left.

BTW, does anyone know how Portugal is doing? They made all drugs legal a while ago! And no, I have never used prohibited drugs, not even Mary Jane! And should also hastily add in connection with the above, I have also never obtained the services of a lady of the night! :geek:

Yes, I think we're talking past each other. I'm simply not for legalizing criminal activities for a number of reasons. But this is a British thread and they will do what they want whether I like it or not.

As a former German, where prostitution is regulated and accepted, I always find the North American intolerance of it strange and puritanical. It leads to abuse of the sex workers by organised crime.

Yes, illegal prostitution does lead to abuse of sex workers, but that abuse is probably already illegal and can be prosecuted. On the other hand, legalization stamps prostitution as right and honorable and tempts our children into a very dark world. Unacceptable. I think the answer is that any kind of moral legislation is wrong, government should stay out of it, same goes for gambling legislation. Just another opinion.,

I don't understand, friend! By making prostitution illegal isn't that "moral legislation?" And I have never seen German or Dutch children lured over to the dark side by more liberal laws! Those who seek the company of sex workers will seek it no matter if it is legal or not. The rest of us are safe because for us sex is more than a physical act!

That's what I'm saying, Old Salt! Prostitution should NOT be illegal. Government should not stick its nose in to make it so. No liberal laws, ever. NO LAWS at all regarding moral questions. I don't know how German or Dutch children are lured. I only wish with all my heart that they were not.

Sorry, gruntlabor, misunderstandings happen! It seems we are on the same side. And I think you'll agree that our children are in far more danger from social media and from internet porn, so openly available even to a child!

I do agree. We forget how helpless and innocent they are, and how wild their hormones are in puberty.

Car cannibalism isn't new. In 1972, I lived in NYC. On the way to work in the morning, there would be a disabled car on the side of the highway. Coming home, that car would be just a frame-everything was gone- engine, seats, tires, dash- all gone. I think the only reason the frame was left is that it was too big to fit in the trunk.
