A OHM question

I have 6.1 home theater av receiver (6 speakers plus sub woofer)
all speakers are 8 ohms exept rear center which is two 16 ohm wired together to give me total 8 ohms

I am updating my receiver and it is 7.1
I know I can just leave one speaker out giving me 6.1

Now for question ......... Can I utilise my two rear 16 ohm speakers as two seperate speakers.In other words can I mix 8 ohm and 16 ohm speakers together?

This is receiver I plan to use

I tried all the tricks with an 8 and 16 ohm speaker and I can tell you for sure, where the impedance may work out, the volume discrepancy between the 2 speakers will be a problem.
The 8 ohm speaker will take most of the power and the 16 ohm speaker will be much quieter. In general it's not a good idea.

Bingo! The 8ohm speaker is going to get twice the power, this is why you don't do it.

Might look out for two 8 ohm speakers

The 16 ohm ones I have came from my first home theater (all in one no seperate amp) All speakers were 8 ohm exept the rear L&R which were the 16 ohm ones I am using at present and that came brand new in package

Nothing wrong with amp I have now Only thing I upgraded my TV and it doesn't have S vid out
Could use coposite connection but that defeats digital output

New one has HDMI so only one cable needed for audio and video :)

Had not heard from them by three days so gave them a phone call:p
"Oh we were about to ring you" reception said.Aparently there were a few bits missing.:mad:I had to wait all day for manager to call me back (he was at a meeting)
Finaly got a call from reception.I was offered another model (not as many bells or whistles ) brand new in box for same price

Have bought two 8 ohm speakers from Ebay
Buyer wanted $29 pair but I offered $20 and was accepted :D
