A professional squatter in California suing landlord, living free for over a year

A professional squatter in a California mansion rental is suing the landlord even though she's stayed over 500 days for free. She apparently done this before. The landlord is accusing her of extortion.

Airbnb renter stays at Brentwood home for more than a year without paying

Airbnb squatter unsuccessfully tried to sue LA couple over car crash

This professional litigant has also sued a couple after an accident in which she has no proof of injury.

Basically a con artist, liar, dead beat and is hiding behind laws designed to help those with more dire needs and situations than hers.

Unfortunately in this very liberal state there are many who would take advantage of it for their own personal gain. However, knowing the law and how to manipulate it can be found in many situations throughout the country. Professional lawyers often use this knowledge to get their clients off. Can you think of any President that has done it and is still doing it for his own personal gain? If such behavior is criminal then all who do it are criminals as well.

Once this type of con artist gets in, it’s very hard to get them out. Often they’ll trash a house.

In the Toronto area, there were some that even sold the house.
They game the system. That is their life.

I've known landlords who had tenants able postphone an eviction for over a year. They didn't pay then lease expired. What they would do is get caught up on rent every now and then and had lawyers get them more time.

What I don't get if the landlord or home owner has documentation that the house is theirs or they have an original copy of a lease why does take so long to "verify" these things. Buy house and the title search will be done in less than a month. Once ownership is documented the lease and other documents are easier to verify.

professional litigant
exactly ...any person who has a history of this abuse just make it harder for any real case and clog the courts ...
i wish all those found doing this were barred from filing or every case they try had to be held to scrutiny before ever being allowed to proceed.

it is hard because so many file suit because they hope the checkbook just pops out to pay them off.... i know corporations and such do this because dragging it out is often more expensive then writing a check.... but it just invites more scams and frivolous lawsuits.

The tenant who fights evictions is an old game which I've seen numerous times over the decades. But these recent squatters or scammers aren't just trying to buy time to find a new place or find a legit technicality to keep them in their rental it's like they feel entitled. This particular squatter scammer is Harvard alumni. She probably developed a taste for hanging out with or doing what rich people do and was never able to give it up. Or maybe she developed a contempt for those with money/stuff she doesn't have which is how she rationalizes her cons.

She's no spring chicken so I doubt her last few years of scams are they only ones she pulled on someone. She's also probably one of these people that don't bother to look at price tags rich or poor. I just see a sense of entitlement.
