Not so random! Have seen snakes sunning themselves on the highways to Myrtleford and Bright, Vic. Very unpleasant for snake and driver if snake gets caught in the underpinning of car.
Stayed in a cabin near Cairns one year. Thought the 1000's of bats hanging around in the trees were frightening enough when I almost tread on a brown snake, lying across the path, one night coming home from a meal.
I was too scared to move and waited until the brown snake got bored and slithered into the grass. :help1:
