I read this article in Cosmopolitan about Leonardo DiCaprio and thought it was interesting as a symbolic gesture. A group of his Russian fans are taking up a collection of gold and silver so that they can make him an Oscar because they think he deserves one for not only his movie work but also because he's a strong advocate for the earth and the natural world.
'.... In an interview with Russian news agency TASS (via Mashable), the campaign's leader says locals have long considered Leo "to be an actor who can inspire and delight his audiences." The group plans to make a statue figure that will hold a goblet instead of a sword, because a goblet symbolizes "peace" and "the people's love for the actor." The statue will also look toward the sky because "only then does he realize his true purpose and become a part of nature," according to the campaign leader......'
I particularly love how they've replaced the sword with a goblet and bring the natural world into the equation! Very cool tribute I think.
