I have just heard some devastating news. One of the longest standing records in world soccer has fallen. And it was a Scottish club who held this record. Until recently Arbroath FC held the record of the highest victory by a senior team. Admittedly, the record was set back in the dark days of the 19th century. Probably when they used hand stitched balls made of thick cow hide! That result was Arbroath 36 Bon Accord 0. A day when the Arbroath goalkeeper enjoyed the luxury of sheltering under his umbrella, so little was he troubled by the opposition.
So, an Ecuadorian team has now snatched that result from the Scots. Sporting Club has defeated Indi Native by 44 - 1. How they managed that given the time it takes to re-spot the ball and restart the match, I have no idea. I suspect foul play here and demand a rematch. Let us Scots keep our record.
Historic Result
