Hello!

What an excellent meeting place. Great to be here!

I'm retired from the direct response television world. Living with my wife, 2 world class dogs and a lazy cat. Live in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California.

A surprising second career is going strong. I'm a songwriter beginning to have my songs recorded by artists in Nashville. I write a lot about being a "new" senior. Here's the link for my latest song about all the fun of getting older. It's called "An Older But Wiser Kind of Guy." I'm currently pitching it in Nashville. Hope you enjoy it! http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13441703

Hi Steve! Welcome aboard. :)

Just finished listening to your song. Very talented, you are. And, you have a great voice too. Good luck finding an artist in Nashville that is willing to record it.

Wow, Steve! Excellent! You know, I listened to several of your demos and could picture certain artists that would fit the style. I love the country humor songs as they are lighthearted. I like all country though especially some of the older tunes and of course, legends like Patsy Kline. I wish you success as you seem to be on track and I would just keep on writing. That's what Willie did!

Hello Steve!

I'm brand new myself...you can read my introduction to these forums https://www.seniorforums.com/showthread.php/24656-Music-Maker-Hobbyist-from-Sacramento .

OK, so pardon me if I come on too strongly, but you are exactly the kind of person I was hoping to meet here. I liked your "Old But Wiser Kind of Guy" so much that I hyperlinked out to your other work and liked it even better. For example:

1. I hit the "music" link under "navigation" and saw that you have 150 songs. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=697195 . I hit the play button for the second song (She Sang Every Sunday) and heard the most touching and deeply affecting song I've heard in a long time. My wife is an outstanding Church soprano, apparently as your departed wife was, which I learned from the "full music" link:

My wife and unborn son were killed by a drunk driver back in 1976. She had multiple degrees in music and even a performer's certificate in voice from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. She had a beautiful Soprano voice. One of her greatest joys was singing in a little country church every Sunday. It was quite a treat to sit in the congregation and hear her marvelous voice.

What a story, and what a tribute your song was.

2. I hit your link to "steelstringslider" under "artist info" and then hit the "view my videos." I saw a cute muppet movie about the government shutdown:

What a range you have!

Count me in as a superfan.

Phoenix, thank you so much. You may count yourself as my 2nd fan. My next door neighbor beat you to the #1 spot: he pestered me to put something out on the Internet. It is a chore to find a means to make people aware that there is something they might like...free music is everywhere!

Sorry for the late welcome Steve, I was out in the woods when you said hello. Good singing there!

I'm aware of how difficult it can be. I'm an author. I'm writing my 11th book. I published two books through traditional publishers, but after that it's been a long dry spell. My second agent recently died of lung cancer. So this summer I published a book myself through Smashwords. Now I'm trying to convince universities in a number of departments that the area needs further study. It's narrative nonfiction. The arts are what makes life worth living, and yet, sharing one's work in a way that finds the target audience and making them aware that it's something that could be of value to them is a pain in the backside. One of my writer friends said that I should offer my work to the department chairs at the universities for free. But it's often been my experience that unless someone pays for something, they don't value it. Artists on all level deserve to be paid the same way an auto mechanic or a person who repairs computers needs to be paid.
