his body was apparently devoured by lions, authorities said.

A search team in Kruger National Park was only able to recover a skull and a pair of pants.

South African National Parks said Friday that the victim and four accomplices were trying to poach a rhino Tuesday evening. The accomplices called the victim's family and said he had been killed by an elephant.

The South African Police Service said two of his alleged accomplices were arrested with rifles and ammunition in their possession.

That is an odd story unless the poachers were total fools to be close enough to an elephant to let it kill. No sympathy for poachers. There is a horrible story that surfaced last week about two pieces of **** that shot and killed a mother bear and her two cubs in their resting place at point blank range and laughed about it. What they did not know is they were being filmed and sound recorded which lead to their arrest. It is on Google but I don't recommend anyone view it.

It could be that in the intensity of the hunt they failed to see the elephant. I'm sure they did in time to run, but I'm thinking maybe the deceased had fallen and couldn't get up in time.

Rhino poacher killed then eaten

Karma!

Only a skull and a pair of trousers remained after a suspected rhino poacher was killed by an elephant and then eaten by lions in Kruger National Park..".

I'm not really disappointed when I find out they eat the elephant and don't hunt it just for the tusks.

People have to eat and if you are poor you try anything to survive.

that's a big piece of steak they were orderin - unless they were gonna carry it along home for the family? yup I'll go with the karma thing - 27 steaks please and a big dollop of karma for me and me mates!

"Only a skull & a pair of pants were left by the lions."

Good reason for that. The skull had nothing in it. Neither did the pants.

I have no sympathy for poachers. I'm glad some get what was coming to them. I do feel sorry for the animals who are involved. They usually end up being hunted because they have tasted human blood. It happens around here with bears.
Last year a man was hiking and got between a bear and her cubs, she attacked, the man was killed and within a week she was hunted down and killed. Lord knows what happened to the cubs.
Sooner or later they will go after the elephant and the lions.

Depending on the proximity of the killer animal to humans it should be left alone if far away but if it resides close to people there is little reason not to tranquilize it and drive it far away. If killing it makes sense to those living nearby then so be it.
