A Very Sad Polar Bear

I learned today of a particularly cruel 'attraction' in a Chinese shopping mall. In the mall, they keep a polar bear in a glass enclosure simply for the pleasure of shoppers who enjoy taking selfies with the animal in the background. Images and videos of the bear clearly appear to show that it is distressed. A petition has been raised in objection to this attraction and so far it has raised 150k signatures.

The video in this link is one of the saddest images of a wild animal in distress that I have ever seen.

Signed. I'm not being racist...but there is a country with among the worst human and animal rights violations in the world. After how many decades of forced abortions, now you can have two children. And women are refusing...A tradition of a yearly dog meat festival. Dogs, cats and everything else including endangered species available at the market for food or homeopathy.
 
Even if I enjoyed travelling, I would never ever go to China or actually any of the Asian countries for that matter. For one thing, my holiday dollars are not meant to go to a country that has the most egregious animal welfare standards that exist (like none!) and two, I'd be forever scared that I'd turn a corner and see horrific things happening to some poor helpless animal. The things that they do.....indescribable.

The one good thing that I will say is that even in those countries, there are animal rescues operating there more every year so they're not totally horrible but I'd still be afraid to be confronted by true evil.
 
Yes, there are people who hijack the animals (and help them) from the ones who would kill the dogs and cats. I have read about them and I am proud of them

Thanks for posting the link to the petition, Seabreeze. And thanks to those who have signed the petition.

What saddened me so much about this was that kids would be encouraged to have their p;ics taken with the bear. Instead they should be learning how to respect nature and an incredible animal like that. Sticking it on display for public entertainment is not acceptable.
