My son sent me this after he found out he's diabetic. He's been able to control it without meds and his pecuiiar eating habits. And has managed to keep his levels below 6. My meter uses the mg/dl reading. As you can see the red levels indicate diabetes and the dark red indicates dangerous territory. I hope this is helpful.

He told me yesterday that there are a couple employees that are getting the shots and the insurance is letting it go through. It just makes me nervous because if my blood sugar gets too low I could get sick.

Mine has been reading 5.6 for the past 2 years and I have diabetes type 2. I only control mine with diet and have never been on meds for it. It was at 7.2 when I was diagnosed 2.5 years ago. It wasn't advisable to use a med with having liver disease.

I wonder why you're type 2 at 5.6 and he says i'm not diabetic till i get to 6.5?

I don't trust the medical field much so I always wonder if they're doing things to take advantage of us and not necessarily because we're sick. But that's just me. The reason I say that is because suddenly everyone is pre-diabetic and in need of a c-pap machine. It's just fishy.

I wonder too. Maybe the feeling is that once a patient crosses that pre-diabetic threshold, it's all too easy to become a full fledged diabetic if one isn't careful and does not make the necessary changes, which for some is very hard to do.
It is nearly impossible for me 😢

I know what you mean. You are certainly not the only one who feels that way. Add that doctors are always pushing medication over healthy lifestyle or herbal remedies. Some believe they are in the pockets of Big Pharma.

I remember when they changed the parameters for the hypertension diagnosis. Previous good pressures became high or borderline high. More medication opportunities. Best thing to do is know our bodies, follow our instincts and ask questions.

@Aneeda72 ..and I empathize with you. I have a hard time too.

Well, with the diet most Americans now eat, fast food, processed food, pop, potatoe chips, etc, most everyone is pre diabetic. As for a c-pap machine, a fat throat means a c-pap machine although there are other reason for one as well.

@MarciKS I've heard differing opinions about what is a diabetic reading. I've heard over 6 and this article is in agreement with what your doctor said. https://diabetes.org/a1c
@Ruthanne ..apparently you have excellent control. Good for you.
@Aneeda72 When my son first told me he was diabetic, his A1C was 8. Eight?!!! I told him I'd never had a reading that high.
I take my blood sugar readings and I usually have a big salad with EVOO and Balsamic Vinegar daily. I do best when I have one of those salads a day--don't get me wrong though as I do eat other stuff too. I read Nutrition labels all the time, too and aim to eat the correct portions.

I am also prediabetic borderline under 6. My diabetes expert said that some people like me can stay at this level indefinitely with no harm. The trends of thought about this vary over time, she said. For example, studies show that eggs are okay to control bad cholesterol but there is no certain answer. I am still allowed to eat my sweets in small moderation. I notice that even if I eat desserts (small) the AC1 does not rise.

I fine if I put food on my mouth my A1C rises 😂.

"I never met a cookie I didn't like." Blood sugar was at approx 175 this morning.

my other favorite line is "I can resist anything but temptation..."
Buckeye and @Aneeda72 I've found that Stauffer's ginger snaps don't cause a rise in my blood sugar readings. Once after eating six, my reading was 98 although they have caused readings that were a bit higher. I also buy Murray's sugar free cookies when I can get to Walmart. They are very good and there's a nice variety. I usually buy the chocolate chip, choc chip with pecans and pecan shortbread. I also love Voortman's sugar free Almonettes, preferring the plain over the iced version but I haven't seen the plain in a long time. Voortman also has quite a variety.

I actually am not a big cookie eater. I think the Christmas cookie thing is linked to the good times with my children when they were young and we made cookies together. We also made salt cookies to hang on the tree. So I buy the different shaped frosted Christmas cookies to eat as I crave them in remembrance, I guess.

😂. They really aren’t that good, it’s the memories that they bring that are wonderful. Christmas this year was so lame. 🤦🏻‍♀️. I think I’d like to be in Texas next year for Christmas with my daughter. Hopefully, that can happen.
