According to his wife,Elaine Taylor it stemmed from a blow to the head from a fall
He was a multi talented actor in TV/stage/movies,a few favorite movies he appeared in:
'The Man Who Would be King' '75,he played Ruyard Kipling opposite Michael Caine,Sean Connery
"Where the Heart Is' '90
A Beautiful Mind' '01
Knives Out '19
On Broadway,he won 2 Tony Awards'
'73 'Cyrano' musical version of'Cyrano de Bergerac'
'97'Barrymore' his portrayal of actor John Barrymore
He became the oldest person at age 82 to win Best Supp Actor Academy Award for movie'Beginner's
He won 2 Emmys for
"The Money Changers' '76
voice performance in'New Adventures of Madeline' '95
He is survived by his wife,Elaine Taylor and his daughter,actress Amanda PLummer. Her mother was actress Tammy Grimes
One of my favorite TV movies he did was with Julie Andrews in 2001.They did live version of "On Golden Pond' he played 'Norman Thayer{Henry Fonda did the movie version}.It was great to see these 2 long time friends appear together again
 

Christopher is the third cast member from 'Sound of Music' to die
Two of his onscreen'daughters', Charmain Carr ,Heather Mendes-Ulrich died in 2016,2017
