Adding words to dictionary

I've added several words to the dictionary on this forum, however although they appear on the list of customised words, they are still shown as wrong on the spell checker. First thought was that SF used a different dictionary for spell checking eg. it used a US dictionary and my words were added to a UK one.
Any ideas about this?

I find that it's UK centric here.. .. so it's will show me all sorts of American words being spelled incorrectly... colour ( color) aluminium ( aluminium ) etc.. so all my British words are fine..but all American spellings have a red line underneath... I have to remember not to correct them..

Ditto here. It's most annoying to say the least.

I think I might have cracked it. The spell checker is case sensitive and also only checks the word exactly - and it does not accept plurals unless they are added explicitly. eg. I entered Brassica - fine, but not Brassicas, brassica or brassicas. If a word comes up that you know is spelled correctly, but is underlined, you can add it to the dictionary OK, but be aware that you may have to enter all forms of the word.
