Advice needed for Spotify

Hi. I have a Spotify account but never use it. Guess I am too busy. Just wondering what Spotify is all about. They are always writing to me trying to get me to sign up for a 3 month trial. Is it just for listening to music or can you actually download it on a USB & keep your music? I would like some good advice from people out there who like & use Spotify. Thanks for answering.

I use Spotify and love it but it's now for everyone. If you do pay a subscription you can download the music to your phone so you don't have to use wifi or data to listen. However you can not download the music onto a USB stick or any other type of device and keep it. If you stop subscribing from the service, your downloads will be deleted.

If you don't subscribe, you can still listen to any music it offers but you can't download it to your device and there are ads every thirty minutes or so.

It is great for listening to music and podcasts but if you don't normally listen to music from your phone or your computer then it really is not worth it in my opinion.

MarkinPhx's reply covers most of the bases.

I use Spotify to check out new releases by artists I already like and by artists I want to check out. I also use it to increase my listening depth for artists that are newer to me.

I also keep some Spotify playlists of favorite songs so that if someone wants to know what type of music I love I can point them to my playlists and they can listen to what I like rather than just getting a list of music I like.

Spotify has most of the artists I listen to but there are some aritsts that I love who are not on Spotify.

You can download music to your phone so you don’t have to use wifi but you can’t store them anywhere. Are they in zip files or just regular downloading files? Can you download any type of music? How much does it cost?
