Is this common to have some abrasion during surgery with eyes closed? Tuesday I had surgery and my eyes seem to be gritty, burn and water a lot. My right eye hurts.

Anyone know or can shed some light on this i didnt realize until now it,could have been during surgery. So im late with calling a doctor before christmas.

Thanks

Sorry, I don't remember having eye abrasion after surgery, but I was on pain killers so might not remember.

You should go ahead and telephone regardless of the holiday, I'm sure they will have someone on call, at least a nurse who can recommend whether you can use over-the-counter eye products or if you need a prescription eye drop.

Thank you. I will do this.

I had a BCC removed via Mohs surgery from the side of my nose very close to the corner of my eye last year. I remember you mentioned surgery in another thread about a BCC on your nose. If that's the surgery you had I will say this:

I can tell you the area around my eye was bloodshot, watered some, swollen, and I had a nice black eye. But, my eye itself did not hurt or feel gritty.

I am not a medical professional.

I know its Christmas but I think you should contact the doctor.

Good luck.

Yes it is from having the cancer removed from my nose.

I will call. Thank you

I called and talked to the dr on duty. He told me to just use artificial tears and it should help.

So i have some and have been using them. On Monday Im calling my ophthalmologist just incase I need different care.

Thank you both for nudging me to call. I dont normally call any doctor when I think I could deal with it. But its on the record and thats a good thing.

You already followed that good advise, given above.
In addition,
I would do what you wrote here, and also call the eye doctor, on Monday morning too.
They would know if your eye should be checked for any possible reason, as well as if any other type of drops would be recommended.

Did you have local anesthesia? That might be the cause and will probably go away, but I'm no expert.

I had general anesthesia. I guess that means through the vein That puts me out. Not locally. Well my nose was already numb from dermatologist cuttinhg it out.

I don't know about this eye issue or surgery Pauline, but I'm glad you're contacting the doctor and I wish you the best.

Thanks SeaBreeze. Im actually feeling better today. Which is excellent. It just takes time. I have a feeling they swabbed ointment at the edges of my eyes which I read they fo to keep from any damage to the corneas and can also tape them shut. But i sure felt it on my eyelids for several days. Its much better. So im on the mend .

I hope yoh had a wonderful Christmas. Next stop New Years.
