Hey all,
Just did a search for retirement forums and picked this one. I knew it was the right place with the 'bot' question I got: "If you smoked pot, wore love beads, what would you be called?" MY PEOPLE! lol
Moved to Maine from San Diego 18 years ago. Came of age in the suburbs of Los Angeles (Redondo Beach). Do I miss the big cities? Yes. But, quality of life is great here in southern Maine. Wouldn't go back for anything.
I'll be 64 in May and looking to retire earlier than 66. Just completely sick of corporate America. The company I've been at for 13 years was sold 8 years ago and is progressively getting worse with Lean Manufacturing, metrics, goals and all sorts of dogma that is making not only the senior employees stressed and ticked off, but the younger folks as well. I blame my hippie spirit for not being able to take it anymore. I'll take the lower SS payout and work part time until I take the big dirt nap.
I purchased my first home 7 years ago. A 1961 ranch. I never get to enjoy it. Weekends are full of chores and cooking, and before you know it it's Monday again. By taking my leave earlier than I planned at least this way I'll have free time to enjoy Mr. Wonderful, the cats and the house. Mr. Wonderful and I have been blissfully shacking up for 27 years.
And, that's my intro in a nutshell.
