All snakes are useful

Yup, I occasionally see a garter snake or black snake moving around the yard when mowing, etc. I just stop, and take a stick and move them away from where I'm mowing. One time, years ago, I saw a Copperhead under my tractor in the workshop...so I took a broom and carefully coaxed him back into the yard. It's important to know the difference between poisonous and non dangerous snakes. The biggest one I've seen here was a black snake about 6 ft. long.

I actually expected this year due to heavy rains to see an increase in snake population. IIRC last year saw a "granddaddy" gopher snake on a couple of occasions. I hope he's ok, snakes don't always make good choices.

One of the things my son and I did he was little. Go on little snake hunts, just those tiny little grass snakes. He loved to do things like that.
