Almost Got Hit by Another Car

Today, as I was driving to the library on a back road, I almost got hit by another car heading straight for me in my lane. He had decided to pass the car in front of him and headed straight for me. I swerved to the right, into a nearby small road to avoid getting hit, and he also turned in there and we almost collided. I made a swift left to avoid hitting him and turned back on the main road. My heart was thumping so hard. There was no signal on his part to let me know he was turning into that small road.

I think that was reckless driving. I have traveled this area for many years and this is the first time something like this ever happened to me. I was praying all the way to the library. Feeling grateful to be alive.

Thank God you're alright! šŸ’• šŸ’• šŸ«‚

You were so lucky you weren't hit. I was travelling through a round-a-bout and the car on the opposite side of the road decided to change lanes without indicating, almost hit me and he had the hide to blast me with his car horn. I think he was on his phone.
Oh dear! I'm glad you weren't hit, @oshcash ! That can be quite an unsettling experience!

Thank you, @Kaila! Like you said, it was "shocking, unnerving, and upsetting." I might avoid the back roads from now on and stay on the main roads.
Our country roads..and lanes used to be very quiet and as I live here, I'd often drive along our one car wide roads without seeing another car...for miles, which given that most of the roads are very bendy so it's difficult to see a car coming the opposite way.. and especially bad at night.

Now I rarely go through them, because for the last few years people using satnavs, get guided through them to avoid motorway traffic..they don't live here, so they dont know the rules of the country roads, and it's all become very dangerous now

So glad that you are OK though, Patty, and, what a super driver you are, take a bow. šŸ¤—

A lot of people aren’t as lucky as you were. Over my 37 years as a State Trooper, I have investigated many accidents as you described. It’s always the other person’s fault and unless you have a dash cam that shows the reality of the situation, in most instances the cop investigating the accident will advise both parties to contact their insurance company and let them battle it.

If there is a serious injury or death involved with the accident, we will do a full investigation, including a reconstruction of what happened using skid marks, the directions of the vehicles, etc. Our accident reconstructionists do excellent jobs of finding out who did what.

Having a dash cam in this environment with road rages happening almost daily is a good idea and in case of an accident, it can be used in a court of law in case of a serious accident and the case goes to trial.

Thank you for the information, @911 ! What is a dash cam, may I ask? I haven't heard of it before and might consider it. Thanks.
