Good game between two of the best teams - but it would have been better if the painted NFL logos had actually dried, considering that the sod used was a grass specifically designed for AZ's desert-like conditions. But it's naturally a slick grass, more slippery than traditional turf.
You'll notice it gave KC a slight edge because they had played on that field in January and complained about it then (and that was without all the gaudy NFL logos painted on). Their players came out for the SB wearing appropriate cleats. The Eagles all had to change shoes. Even with better cleats, you can see players from both teams slipping whenever they tried to come to a quick stop after a run, or turn suddenly, during the entire game. It's amazing nobody pulled a muscle or twisted an ankle!
The slick field negated the pass rush of both teams. KC adapted better by sending their players in on situation-specific blitzes so the linemen could just charge straight ahead and not have to try rushing the edges - again, knowing the field gave them a leg up on D strategy.
Give the Eagles' premier pass rusher Haason Reddick credit; he kept pretty quiet about his complaints afterwards but if it hadn't been for sliding around on that field, he might have given Mahomes some genuine trouble.
The two teams were about as evenly matched as could be. It comes down to who got the breaks, and KC got the gift fumble from Hurts that turned into 6 pts. Eagles fans complained about the PI call, but it was that fumble much earlier that allowed KC to keep pace so that the Eagles couldn't pull away for a rout. KC ran almost an even 50/50 run/pass game, whereas the Eagles were forced to pass more.
As usual, the announcers were so-so in quality and the camera work was mediocre.
