Am I the only one who is tired of young people bashing?

I agree..in fact I keep hearing on this forum that people didn't trust anyone over 30... I never in my life heard that until this forum. In fact I loved older people more than my peers.. they were always the kindest to me when I was growing up, so much so that I couldn't wait to get old to be one..

Well, two of them are my daughters, both millennials. One has a PHD in genetics and is a working scientist, the other is an artist. They're both pretty damned fabulous. I have a gazillion (seriously) grand nieces and grand nephews who range from ages 7-25 and they all rock. Smart, engaged, hilarious and kind. I also have a three month old grandchild who seems pretty damned cool, but she doesn't say much yet.
I spent most of my career working with teens and I really enjoyed them. Love their enthusiasm, their sense of adventure, their openmindedness. I've been active politically my entire life and it's the young folks who are the most engaged and passionate. I recently watched a young person in my former town single handedly take on a lot of the old bigots and effect incredible change. I was quite inspired. I get sick of my own generation and our incessant whining, though- although I've got some wonderful friends my age and older who aren't like that at all.
Kids today have it harder than we did, what with the cost of education etc (I'm in the States), housing, and the awareness of a deteriorating climate, but the great majority of them still are enthusiastic and hopeful. I think they're heroes. I don't take kindly to folks putting down what they don't understand.
 
As I said in the "Boomer bashing" thread, my wife & I have found that, where we live, when younger people get to know us, mutual respect & warmth seems to grow.

Hollydolly, the "don't trust anyone over 30" slogan & attitude circulated among certain loud dissenting groups in the U.S. It came through to us in Canada as something we read here & there. But I don't think it was declared very extensively in either the Canada or the U.S. I'd say it's true there were some generational disparities or shifts in lifestyle directions, priorities, attitudes, tastes & stuff like that.

Accurate or not, many of us in north America had a perception that "working class" youth (lads like the Beatles being an example) felt newly energized in the UK in the '60s & 70s. Your thoughts?

We and those who came before us are leaving behind an ungodly mess of a planet. I sincerely hope millennials and their offspring will be up to the challenge or the earth future generations inhabit will have very little resemblance to the one all of their ancestors enjoyed.

Bash young people? Pffttt.... we should be apologizing to them.
