Amazon has announced their plans to discontinue their Amazon Smile program. This is the feature that allows shoppers to choose a charity to receive a small donation with each Amazon purchase. I am a bit dissappointed as I had been supporting a rat rescue program started by a person in the rat community I belong to.
Just a heads up if you use the program

Yes, they just sent me a notice, too... and I'm disappointed as well. You'd think they would have some better corners to cut than charities. :(

OK, I'm going to be the mean SOB. I don't like corporate charity. All those car makers are busy saving whales, the environment, battling discrimination, and saving the planet, as are most big businesses. That's nice, but whose is paying for their generosity??? Anybody, who buys their products. It ain't coming out of their profits. Being charitable is great PR, it's also deductible, and as long as customers pay for it, corporations can be quite generous. If I want to buy a product, I don't think the higher price to pay for well publicized corporate charity is a bargain. Bah Humbug!!!!!!!

LOL. Yes. Back when Rick was alive, we had several rats as pets. Cute little critters..especially for people like me who cannot have dogs or cats, due to allergies. Yes..I am weird. But I loved my little furkids
My nephew and his wife rescue lab rats from her work (on the sly). They are very good pets .. intelligent.

I agree I'm subscribed to two donations. Political cartoonist and seal rescue out on Nambia. I send it through patreon who disburses it. No corp gets an extra from me.

Why? Jeff Bezos wants his billions and never to pay taxes on any of it. The U.S. taxpayers paid for his trip into space. He didn't pay for a thing. He is shameless and would probably do anything to anybody. Show me a billionaire and I'll show you a 😖.

This really upset me. I had Smile set up to donate to a small animal rescue group that rescues older dogs from shelters, back yard breeders, owner surrenders, strays, etc. These are mainly animals that would probably not attract an adopter in a shelter environment due to being older and would end up being euthanized. They fully vet every dog they take in, get their vaccinations up to date, spay or neuter as needed, etc. so their vet bills are quite high and I’m sure they depended on the donations to help with the expense. Shame on you, Amazon.

I'm noticing this penny pinching everywhere I go.

Kroger is not the store it was a five years ago and I'm not talking about the rise in prices but the sinking in food quality. Both Kroger and Walmart are all but forcing us to use self-check, so although they've raised prices they are making the customer do the work of several cashiers.

I belonged to TCM's message board for years. A simpler message board than this, with no apparent moderator where a small group talked about old black and white movies. It was recently closed by TCM. Some devoted film noir fans had written hundreds of reviews and they're all gone now. How many billions does that network make that they can't spend a few hundred to maintain a little message board?

My Fitness Pal, is handy for tracking calories, it also had a "my blog" section for each member where you could keep track of any personal thing. I had been writing a autobiography on mine like the diary section here. all gone now without a moments notice if anyone had wanted to save their stuff.

Yeah, I also got a notice. I've been donating, through Amazon, to a local shelter for abused women and children. I'm disappointed that it's going to be discontinued. Although, before Amazon Smile, I'd donated to that shelter for almost forty years and will continue to do so.
