American TV Weather Reporters

This terrible weather is leading the news reports over
here and I suppose, in other parts of the World too.

I am wondering if your reporters are allowed to stay
indoors to report the weather, I know that we see them
out in very heavy rain, cyclones and tornadoes, but this
is different, this is killer weather, I would hate to hear of
a young rookie reporter, being killed by the weather, it
would be the only thing that stops the TV Channels from
forcing young reporters out in the weather, a practice
that I think is silly!

It happens here too.

Mike.

The 'reporters' all try to outdo one another by appearing, (or attempting to appear, more like), 'braver' when faced by worse-than-you-had circumstances.

I recall one, which made the rounds, of a reporter with water behind her trying to give the impression that this was a repeat of the Red Sea parting......until a couple young guys walked by up to their ankles in water.

I don’t think they are in any real danger, barring some freak accident. Yes, they’re out in the cold for a few minutes ( along with a camera crew) but there’s a nice, warm van nearby to hop into. I think the most dangerous storm to be in is a hurricane.

I hate those silly effects. It's one reason I stopped listening to CBC radio. When broadcasting from an Indian reserve, first they'd have the sound of a dog barking in the distance. If they were at a community kitchen, they'd start with the sound of someone chopping vegetables. Sheesh.

I think it's ridiculous and I wonder why they started this sadistic habit of sending people out to report blizzards and hurricanes when we all know what a blizzard and a hurricane is and how dangerous it can be.

Well, Gladiators and Tigers are in short supply nowadays, and flying in the ones you can find is expensive - whereas someone holding a mike, and telling you what you can observe independently, is relatively cheap and definitely expendable.

One of our local TV stations does the weather outside in the backyard of the station. It's one of the few that does, but yesterday it was from inside since the wind and cold were life threatening.
