An apocalypse

The thing we fear most has already happened.

The covid crisis has all the aspects. An emergency was declared, people died or were very sick, panic everywhere. Bad behaviour from those who grabbed for themselves. The vulnerable got left lonely and worried.

The resultant mental health issues continue affecting a lot of people including me. Fallout? Life has changed forever, I can hardly remember the carefree previous life. Wondering what next?

Well, I hope that things improve. Sometimes I'm really pessimistic, I admit. Sometimes I am hopeful about some of the young adults--millennial and younger--I come in contact with; maybe I've just been lucky but they all seem to be realistic but caring young folks; maybe they can help save things. We can hope, I guess.

Rose, I'm so sorry it has affected you so badly. Yes, for many people the pain lingers on and things have changed, but the world is still turning and the sun still rises every morning. There are too many good things in life to let the bad things spoil them, or as my daughter puts it, "life is too short to drink cheap wine". I hope that you can see a happy road ahead.

Somehow millions of people dying all over the globe was not a government hoax. Covid was real, and it's natural to react to a potential life-threatening event. Rose65, you mentioned having mental health issues around the time of Covid. Could it be those issues, rather than Covid, which are causing your apprehension about the future? Of course, I don't know, but it does sound like depression. Is there someone, who could evaluate what's causing you to lose a "carefree life"?

Covid was like 1% of my childhood. I'm not discounting how it affected people. I only thought it was a bit surreal. We experienced deaths at work. That made me sad for their passings because I thought without covid, they'd still be there. I'm an essential worker so I kept working part time as I do now. Other than that, life mainly went on for me. I did have some worries regarding pet food but never ran out of anything.

The food and TP hoarding got on my nerves.

Covid was not an apocalypse, though it could have been if we had not gotten the vaccine. Thank God for science.

Rose, it does sound like you are experiencing depression, which may have nothing at all to do with Covid. Unless, of course you lost one or more loved ones, or your own health was permanently affected, which I hope was not the case. I agree with those who said you probably should seek professional help.

Yes, the governments sure "put the booths to us." Sure folks died but folks die everyday whether we have a pandemic or not. Actually, folks are dying as you read this. It's natural!

I'm not scared of any pandemic and never was. What I'm sort of worried (only a wee bit) is global warming. It is going to kill of more people and destroy more of our way of life than any pandemic. Good thing I'm 77 and not very worried about my future. As for the young folks, well, things are going to be tough. No matter how many smartphones you buy, no matter how many tatoos you put on your body, global warming is here and the results are going to be terrible.
