If it turns out that a cloned animal is susceptible to certain diseases, its descendants can be continually genetically altered until you get an animal that's more robust. But that takes generations of genetic fiddling and requires lots of money. Personally, I think they should focus this kind of effort on saving species whose presence is environmentally necessary (in order to preserve other species, for example) and whose dwindling numbers are caused directly by mankind's foolishness.

I agree. So many species are going extinct because of us. We don't have the right to destroy them. We need to be saving them.
