I just had an auto-call from a computer with a robotic accent.

"Your Amazon Prime is due to be renewed and £17.99 will be
deducted from your Bank account, to stop this speak to an
Amazon Prime Manager by pressing 1 on your phone now".

That was when I hung up ans went to Amazon to check that
I still don't havea Prime Account.

I suppose the robot voice is to disguise the mangled English
accent often associated with the Far East.

Mike.

There must still be enough gullible people around to make this profitable. Otherwise, the originator would not spend the money to do it.

Are you sure it was a scam-and NOT Amazon? When your place an order, it is EXTREMELY easy to click on "Amazon Prime" when completing the order. There are several shipping options. If you don't read them well, you can inadvertently also join Amazon Prime. I happened to notice a $13.73 chrage from Amazon, when I hadn't ordered anything. Conratualtions!! I was an Amazon Prime Customer. And when you want to get rid of it, you have to click on page, after page, after page, after page, after page , typing "no", "no" ,NO', "no'. You can join with one errant click, but to get out, you have to go through a maze of pages. If I hadn't noticed that one charge on my credit card, I'd be paying $164.00 a year for something I didn't know I had.

Over here Fuzzybuddy you automatically get a Prime
membership when you order something and I ordered
something several weeks ago, but after I received the
order, I cancelled the membership, that is twice since
November or December when I bought from them.

I did receive an Email telling me that it was cancelled,
this is in a folder in case I need it in the future.

Here, in the US, when you check out, there are several shipping boxes to click on. Do you want it in 3 days, 7 days , today, overnight? The price depends on the shipping cost. But there's a box that says "Yes, I want FREE delivery, as fast as today with Prime. " You click on this, and you are a Prime Member. for $164.00/year. That's pretty easy to miss. I would say that's pretty much designed for you to miss the "PRIME".

And like you I got an email when I quit, BUT didn't get a damn thing when I 'Joined". And to quit, it wasn't just one click, it was page after page of "Are you sure you want to quit?" "Are you sure you want to quit?" Hell, Brexit was easier than getting out of Prime.

Evidently Amazon and Jeff Bezos are not wealthy enough if they have to resort to tricking customers into giving them more money.

Bezos net worth = $117.4 Billion

After reading you replies, I went and had another look
at Amazon, they say I am not a member, but a few weeks
ago they sent me £7.99 as they must have taken a payment
sonner than the trial period was expired.

I have gotten that same scam call, and also the E-mail version of it.
Be careful out there, it is a jungle!

That's another reason why I virtually Never deal with Amazon. That company is among the world's most profitable, and Bezos is the world's wealthiest billionaire....yet, neither Amazon, nor Bezos pay anywhere near their fair share of taxes. Instead, he and Amazon probably maintain a large staff of lawyers dedicated to finding ways to avoid taxes. IMO, Any company that goes to such extremes to avoid paying their fair share is Not worth dealing with.

Besides, whenever I buy something online, I usually check the price on Amazon, and 99% of the time I find a better deal elsewhere....usually with free shipping, instead of paying over $100+/yr, to make me "think" I'm getting free shipping.

To me, Amazon is the world's largest Consumer Scam.

I buy on Amazon; mostly old DVD shows, but I refuse to join Prime. I hate how they are trying to trick me in signing up. It always says "Free for 30 days". Hack, I don't need Prime.
