Another price increase on my trash service

Just received a message from them that my price is going from $52.99 a month to 55.13. $2.14 doesn't seem like much, but that's over $25 a year, if they don't raise the price again. This morning, both wet trash and recyclable bins were not replaced very neatly - one was left tipped over in the street and the other, the lid was left open. The first could be a traffic hazard, so I had to run out in my nightgown and get it out of the street. The other could be a problem if it was raining or snowing - the bin would get water inside.

My service leaves lids open so customers know they've been around. My town appreciates that.
Gotta say your rate sounds hecka high, though... mine's $32 a month and they do a great job.

I get your frustration, but I've become hardened to the increases. Every time I open mail, something has gone up. I got my home insurance renewal yesterday, and it was up $102.00 from last year. I was shocked it wasn't $500-$600 like it was a year ago. The water bill (which includes trash pick up) rose from about $88/month (exact amount depends on usage) to $100.76. My usage wasn't up, just the price.

There's only two major trash service businesses here (County Waste and Twin Bridges) and they are competitively priced. I chose to stay with the one I was using at the old house even though when I moved they gave me a new account and trash bins. Don't know why.

That amount seems way to high. We have trash pick up twice per week, Mondays and Thursdays, they take everything, yard waste, electronics, old paint, small furniture, everything except appliances and large furniture. The cost is $23.31 per month and they do a fantastic job.

I hope Deb will indulge me in telling a story about this in her thread. My water bill is generally around the same as yours. @MACKTEXAS , $72-$80 range. So last month it's suddenly $91 but no increase notice. Soooo, then they won some major lawsuit and passed it onto consumers. Got a $26.00 credit, and sure enough today's bill was $53. With the credit, that would make the total $79, right back to normal. Anyone want to try to tell me that extra wasn't added onto everyone's bill last month on purpose?

My RE taxes pay for my trash as long as I carry it there. My taxes have doubled in the 22 years I have lived here.

Why should I hire a private service that would cost money, when I can just roll right off of the state highway a few hundred feet down the side road and put the trash in the county bin, on my way to the doctors office once a week.

Vehicle insurance is ridiculous. I am still paying as much for liability only on my 2002 Saturn as I paid for full coverage when I bought it brand new in 2002.😔😔

Well it's good you got a credit.

We did get a water rate increase notice for 12%, a month before it took effect, and that was on top of a previous increase only 3 months before. In Texas, electric and gas utilities are regulated by the Public Utilities Commission, but city-owned water municipalities (like mine) are considered private and answer to no one other than their elected officials, meaning the sky is the limit. The PUC in Texas only has authority over IOUs (investor owned utilities).

Atmos Energy is currently suing the Texas PUC for denying a rate increase. If Atmos wins, as they usually do, back fees, legal costs, and the new rate will be passed on to consumers.

Trash service is very location orientated. That said, when we switched from the dumpster we had for 20years to bin service they created a new account, for reasons unknown.
